1) Contact Us & Visit a Meeting
To get started, Contact the squadron through any means and you will be given information regarding one of our meetings (date, time, location, and other relevant information). Visiting the meeting is just a way for you be introduced to the program, and you never have any obligation to stay. We encourage anyone with even a slight interest to at least come down and visit a meeting.
2) Become a Member
After three meetings, you can become a member. The application is online, and there is an accompanying membership fee of $35. Once your membership has been completed, you will receive a welcome email.
3) Receive contents sent through the Mail
Soon after your membership has been processed, you will receive a package in the mail from the National Headquarters that includes leadership textbooks, aerospace modules, information guides, and your CAP membership card. On this card, you will find your membership expiration date and your CAP ID (this is a very important 6-digit number).
4) eServices
eServices is an online utility that every Civil Air Patrol member has access to. eServices has information, online testing, and an area to request a uniform. Go to eServices > Register > Enter the required information > Check email. You must do this AFTER you have officially become a member.
5) Get the uniforms
One of the most distinct elements of being a cadet is the uniform. There are two air force style uniforms: the Airman Battle Uniform (ABUs) and the Dress Blues (Blues). On our Uniforms page, you will find plenty of resources to guide in you in getting your uniform including proper wear guides and a checklist for both the BDUs and the Blues. Note: You will recieve a $100 voucher to purchase Dress Blues after you complete the first promotion.
6) Start testing, start promoting
To reach the first achievement (John Curry Achievement) and the grade of Cadet Airman, you must:
1. Pass the Chapter 1 Leadership test
2. Pass the Physical Fitness test
For further promotions, see Promotions. As cadets promote, they will be given more responsibility and put into leadership positions. A leader can only lead once he has mastered followership, and the Cadet Programs grade system is designed to move Cadets towards reaching their full inner potential as a leader of the future.
